Pianists in the Digital Age: How to Promote Your Music Online

Do you aspire to be like Chopin, Beethoven, or Mozart? Well, it may be easier than you think to launch your musical career with the use of the Internet. In the 18th and early 19th century when Chopin, Beethoven, and Mozart performed, they had to rely on word of mouth to deliver their message and their passion. However, now in the 21st century, the Internet creates a much easier platform for you to spread your sound.

With over 3 billion users, the Internet has opened musicians up to a whole new pool of listeners. It has made it easier for you to get your music out there and be heard by people that will connect to it. If you’re ready to share your gift with the world, here are some tips for successful online music promotion that can work for your career as a pianist.

1. Create a Website: There are many avenues to promote your music, but you will need a central hub that each of these channels links back to. Your central hub will be your website, and it will be a way that you can control your image and message.

The first step is to determine what webhost you want to use. Musicians tend to use WordPress, Wix or UKit. Although each of these are fairly simple to use without any knowledge of coding or web management, Wix has a template section dedicated to music. If you’re a pianist in a band or orchestra, you can pick the band template, or if you’re a solo pianist, you can opt for the solo artist template. For any webhost you choose though, you can start with a free subscription to test it out. You can also buy a domain name so that your URL can feature either your name or your band’s name.

After you create your site, be sure to design it to reflect your sound. Write from the heart when you describe yourself, and be sure to upload your most recent songs. It is important that you keep your site up to date to keep your fans engaged.

2. Create Your Other Social Media Pages: It is important that you have an online presence on every social media site. You should create a Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram page as soon as you build your website. Each of these platforms will reach out to different users, but it is important that each of them sends the same message about your brand and identity. Also, be sure that each of your sites links back to your website since this is your hub.

3. Start Streaming: Streaming is the way to get your music heard nowadays. It is critical that you get your music on streaming sites such as Spotify, Apple Music, or Tidal to increase your fanbase. Spotify is extremely important because it generates playlists based on musical preference so your music may reach to a more targeted audience of listeners. So, if anything, be sure to set up a Spotify account.

With these three tips, you can start to build your online presence. However, this isn’t the end. You will need to update each of these avenues constantly and connect with your fans frequently. It takes a lot of hard work, but one day you may be just as famous as Beethoven or Mozart.
