Pastimes for a Lifetime is pleased to launch its first Food Scene blog, covering eateries whose menu and environment prove to be a work of art! Our inaugural publication features the fabulous NoHo eatery, The Republic of Pie.

Although they are known for their variety of artisanal pies, I found my all time favorite breakfast at The Republic of Pie. Their potato, leak and goat cheese quiche paired with either a hot or iced full leaf chai is my bicycle brunch choice. The reason it always tastes so fresh is because everything is made on the premises. You can see the kitchen behind a glass wall from the seats near the front door. No microwaved flash frozen fodder here. Water dispensers filled with fresh fruit are refreshing. Very thoughtful of them to offer this gratis to their customers.

The eclectic environment is inviting. Families with kids, hipsters, senior citizens and more can be found gathered around wooden tables or relaxing on couches and chairs.

Last year, in addition to taking guests to brunch at The Republic of Pie, I enjoyed attending a sketching Meet-Up in their back room and caught a performance by an excellent singing duo. Pastimes for a Lifetime is considering hosting a student art showcase and possibly a student piano gig there in 2016. Stay tuned!

Parking can be tricky so I try to bike ride there when weather permits. It’s nice that public bike parking is just outside their front door, too.

Warning: the ambiance and delicious food at The Republic of Pie will make you want to linger. I once spent four hours noshing and catching up with a former art student one Sunday. The time flew by, but the fond memory remains.
