Art Scene :: ‘The Roots that Crack the Concrete’ Art Show

What better way to relax and unwind during the busy Holiday Season than exhibiting in a beautiful art show in DTLA? I was thrilled to be included in the Tribe Project‘s ‘The Roots that Crack the Concrete’ Indigenous Peoples Art Show! My boss, Linda Wehrli encourages me to indulge my passion for painting.

Founder, Sequoia Tiger Moon is from the Choctaw Tribe of Oklahoma.

For those that don’t know of this wonderful organization, here is a little background, penned by Tiger Moon:

“As a young girl growing up with my people, I noticed right away both the infinite magic of my culture and the horrific devastation. I lost many friends at a young age to suicide and drug overdose. As I grew, the statistics grew too. Today we currently hold the highest suicide rate in the Nation by age 15. It’s 12x more than all minorities put together! We also hold the highest drug addiction rate and the highest dropout rate and we only make up 3% of America’s population! I could no longer sit on the sidelines and hope for the best. It’s time to do something!

​I asked the youth “What do YOU want to do?” and the answers came back the same as any other kids would answer. “I want to make a movie”, “I want to be an actress”, “I want to make a music video”………This we could help make happen.

 I began TRIBE in March 2016 and have gathered a great team (or should I say, Tribe). Our goal is to help inspire emerging and established Indigenous artists to express themselves, by providing as many platforms to showcase and bridges we possibly can. We look forward to the future of this intention and collaboration and thank you for your time you have taken to explore our TRIBE!”
