When I heard Arcadia Contemporary‘s new group exhibit was called, Mondo Tondo, my curiosity was piqued. I had to investigate. Here’s the story: Over 50 artists from around the world were carefully selected based on their masterful skills and signature styles. (My boss, Linda Wehrli added that owner Steve Diamont told her at the show, ‘I want art of such quality that no one can just walk in and say, “I coulda painted dat.'” True dat!
Selectees were each given a 24-inch circular panel, called a Tondo, provided by the company Artefex.

The word “Mondo” is used in reference to something very striking or remarkable of its kind.
Mondo Tondo – what else could this show be called?!
One artist who I hadn’t heard of before, Shawn Huckins really stuck out to me. His artwork had me laughing out loud while also leaving me in awe of his masterful craftsmanship. His paintings resemble those of the old master, Gilbert Stuart with a twist of modern day society, like his bold text question “dafuq?” on top of a beautiful landscape. And yes, the text is painted, not photoshopped! More of Shawn’s work may be enjoyed in his online gallery.
Although I was unable to attend the Gallery Opening on Saturday evening, March 16, my boss Linda Wehrli and her husband, Barry Wehrli did and took great photos. Please enjoy this collection of close-ups of their faves.
An important thank you note from my boss: “As an art educator, I can’t thank Arcadia Contemporary’s Steve Diamont enough for allowing me to photograph close-up details of the masterpieces on display so I may share them with my students and fellow champions of great artists in our culture.”
I’ll definitely be going to see this remarkable display next Sunday! I encourage our readers to do so as well.
The show runs through March 30, 2019.

That was a great show, you included some of the best works here!
It sure was! Thank you for the kind words.
Art in the Los Angeles Basin appears to get better and better, with striking, emotionally impacting, highly professional work being the order of the day. There seems to be a competition among artists to excel each other in the Los Angeles milieu. And the public benefits.
Thank you, Mrs. Wehrli, for leading me to such works.
Indeed. It’s a pleasure and a privilege to share this outstanding gallery and artists it represents, with my readers.
A great varied display of artistic talents. I especially liked the “Coffee and Tangerines”. Wonderful, talented artists.
