What better way to spend a hot August evening in LA than at one of my favorite gallery’s art opening?! Appropriately titled HEAT/WAVE, this group exhibition hosted by the artist collective, Noh/Wave celebrated the 100th episode of Artist Decoded by Yoshino with an array of artists and mediums ranging from mixed media to experimental sculptures, as well as a featured projected piece by Tom Krell of “How To Dress Well”.
The gallery opening was held on Friday, August 10 from 7 pm – 10 pm at Noh/Wave in Little Tokyo, DTLA.
Curated by fellow artist Justin Daashuur Hopkins, the exhibit featured the following artists: Mia Bergeron, Yushi Dangami, Jesse Draxler, Stephanie Hanes, Andrew Hem, Justin Daashuur Hopkins, Kim Kei, Steve Kim, Sasoon Markarian, James Mountford, Daniel Segrove, Camilla Taylor, Emilio Villalba, John Wentz, Aaron Westerberg, and Yoshino.
It was especially inspiring to see Aaron Westerberg and his masterful artwork at the opening. He will be teaching a 2-day Zørn Palette Oil Painting Workshop at Pastimes for a Lifetime Art Studio on Sunday and Monday, October 14th and 15th, 2018. Very excited!
I wanted to share with you some of my favorite pieces from the show. Hope you enjoy!

“Princess” by Emilio Villalba, Oil on panel

“Leisure” by Daniel Segrove, Mixed media on paper

“Imprint No. 70” by John Wentz, Oil on canvas

I find the title “NOH/Heatwave” very ingenious. Living in the hot, humid, thunder-storming, 108 degree Las Vegas, such an exhibit would be very salutary here. But since the gaming industry eclipses all artistic activities here, there is no such luck.
