What better way to kick off the 2019 Fall season than with a Student Art Show at the lovely M Street Coffee in Sherman Oaks!
For readers new to our shows, here’s a little behind-the-scenes story:
A month before the show, my boss and founder/instructor of Pastimes for a Lifetime Art & Piano School, Linda Wehrli met with select students deciding which of their recent works to display. Students then framed and delivered their pieces during the week prior to the show.
For each show, I’m charged with specific administrative duties. First and foremost is to photograph, wrap and carefully place incoming artwork in shipping containers, ready for transport. Our student artwork ID tags that get placed next to each work of art, include a photo of the student artist in addition to the description of their work, for a personal touch. The artwork ID tags were then created and printed along with the Certificates of Merit for presentation to the students at the show.
A Pastimes for a Lifetime Gallery Opening Party is more than a celebration of work well done. It is part of the curriculum, providing students with a learning experience in how to install an art show, complete with determining the best layout, hanging the work and affixing ID tags accordingly. It’s actually quite fun and entertaining for the whole family. Students take pride in participating, too.
The 2019 Fall Gallery Opening Party was held on Sunday, September 29th from 5:30-7:30 PM. Guests enjoyed meeting the artists and viewing the beautiful drawings and paintings while sipping their favorite coffees or teas and enjoying delicious gourmet goodies from M Street Coffee. The Matcha Latté with Macadamia Nut Milk is one of my faves.
Linda presented her students with a Certificate of Merit acknowledging their hard work. Those unable to attend will receive their Certificates during their next scheduled art class.
Families and friends gathered for refreshments and conversation after the presentations. It’s one of Linda’s and my favorite portions of the show.
A special thank you to M Street Coffee owner, Mrs. Andrea Vavra for graciously hosting this exciting event!

How I would have liked to attend that event. Unfortunately, I live in Las Vegas, where art takes a back seat to the Gambling Industry. Once, there was an Art and Coffee place in my neighborhood, where I could savor espresso and attend various art events. But ultimately, the owner had to close, and the espresso bar was disbanded. Today, it has become a Mexican Restaurant, titled “Sin Frontera,” translated “Without borders.” So much for art in Las Vegas. Of course there is a lot of commercial art associated with the Las Vegas show business/gambling industry, but that does not provide the same enjoyment as an art and coffee bistro.
Indeed.
I’ll definitely have to take a few friends down to M Street Coffee for one of those Macadamia nut milk Latte’s and take our time viewing those beautiful and creative art pieces! Wonderful works!!!
Thanks for the kind words, Kathie! 🙂
A very enjoyable viewing of these creative and lovely art pieces. I love the smiles on the proud students faces.Great achievements!
