Music Scene :: Artisan Cheese Gallery Gig
On Friday, July 28, 2017 from 7-9PM, patrons of the Artisan Cheese Gallery, Studio City paired their delicious wine and cheese platters, gourmet salads and sandwiches with the sounds of jazz and light classical music.
Here’s the back story:
In December 2016, one of Linda’s art students remarked that he had to leave class a little early to attend the free Friday Night jazz concert at the Artisan Cheese Gallery. That’s the first we had heard about jazz nights at this lovely restaurant. Linda set out to investigate.
Owner Shelley Janson graciously agreed to meet with Linda. They first discussed how to host a student piano recital and set a tentative date in January 2017. Due to a sudden family emergency, Linda had to put the concert on hold until her family members were safely back home and recovering.
Shelley and Linda circled back in May to try again. The date of July 28, 2017 was available, but many of Linda’s piano students were away for summer vacation. There was only one thing left to try. That was to schedule Linda and her trio to play that evening. Luckily, Lily and Roman were available. The date and gig were set.
After several rehearsals, the trio decided on a mixed set of favorite classic jazz standards and light classical pieces.
The room was packed with Linda and Barry’s close friends, several of Linda’s students and their family and friends. Delicious food, friendship and conversations filled the venue.
For those who don’t already know,….

Ms. Lukic is currently the principal flautist of the Valley Symphony Orchestra and three opera companies. She also teaches flute, is a freelance performer, and member of several chamber groups in Los Angeles.
Roman Sirwinski has been playing electric and upright bass for 40 years. He studied with Bruce Bransby, the principal of the Kansas City Philharmonic. Before moving to Los Angeles, Roman performed with the Kansas City Civic Orchestra and toured with Oleta Adams. He has also studied with Paul Ellison at USC and John Clayton to further his classical and jazz studies. He has performed with numerous west coast orchestras and jazz ensembles such as the David Eastlee trio.
Linda Wehrli has been soloing and accompanying on the piano since the age of six. Her coaches include Esther Lee Caplan from Juilliard, Mario Feninger of European piano concert fame and John Novello from Berklee School of Music in Boston. She continues her music education attending Master Classes with the likes of Professors Emeritus Charles Fierro and Eduardo Delgado and concert pianist Rufus Choi. Linda’s Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Cal State Northridge provided the organizational skills that helped her and her hubby author their piano books and curriculum.
Linda wanted me to give a shout out to her hubby, Barry Michael Wehrli for graciously loaning her his new Roland RD-2000 for the gig, along with his expert set up and photography assistance. Barry is also a piano and keyboard instructor as well as the co-author of Linda’s piano instruction books. In addition, Barry arranges, produces and composes music.
